Found: iPhone 3.0 Tweaks

Apple is touting a bunch of great new features for their flagship mobile device. It's true, there's a lot of great stuff in the new OS 3.0 update. There's also a lot of stuff missing for 3G owners like myself like Voice Control, and Video capabilities. But Apple didn't, and can't really be expected to, make any mention of the smaller tweaks that have been stealthily slipped into the system.

The locked screen during music playback now displays track information. Additionally, when you double tap the home button to bring up the controls on the locked screen, it expands from just the track name to include artist, track, and album.

Now, when you have text message preview turned off and you receive a message when the phone is unlocked, it no longer displays message content.

When disabling or MobileMe settings, you're now given the option to retain the information on the phone, or delete it. When enabling, you're given the option to delete existing data or merge it with the cloud. Handy!

Not only does the messaging app now allow for landscape, and MMS, but it also now allows for individual deletion of SMS messages instead of an entire thread which, like Copy and Paste, is really something that should have been available since day one. You're also now able to go back to a failed message by tapping on the new red exclamation point that appears next to a message with an error. The progress bar was also moved to the top to allow for a new sms to be composed while the previous one is still sending.

The new iPhone 3.0 software is available now for download via iTunes, free for iPhone users, $9.95 for iPod touch users. Just plug your iPhone in and click 'Check For Updates'. Have YOU found any 'hidden' iPhone 3.0 gems? Let me know in the comments!
