Ping.vox

So, this post has been a long long long long time coming. When I was in Vegas for Blogworld, I met a wonderful gentleman named James Whatley. (He's from the UK). I learned that this man James was a wonderful fellow who had worked on maybe wonderful things. One of my earlier posts, the one on Mippin, spawned from Mr. Whatley From The UK.
Since Mippin, James has gone on to work with a shining glimmering new startup called Spinvox. What's Spinvox? Well, settle down, I'll tell you. Spinvox is a service. It replaces your voicemail service and intercepts your voicemails. It takes those voicemails, feeds them to a talking lion who then chews them and spits them out. But, when they come out, they're no longer voicemails. No, they're text messages. And e-mails.
Okay, let me set the scene. You're in an important meeting. Very important. Something about the DOW JONES, or something. <BZZZZZZZ> Your phone rings. It's vibrating in your pocket. Crap. Who is it? It's Terry. He needs the access code for that really important account you're working on together. But you wouldn't know that, would you? Because he's leaving you a voicemail. All you see is that you have a missed call from Terry.
Fast forward to 60 seconds later. <BZZZZZZZ> New Text Message.
------------------
From: Terry
"Hey! I need that code for the important account we're working on together! STAT! Like, yesterday! Get back to me ASAP!" (*04) - Spinvox
------------------
Now I can respond to him directly in text message form.
Okay, that wasn't a real scenario. But, still. Very cool. See that number at the end, too? If you want to hear the actual message you can call Spinvox like normal voicemail and hit *04 to hear just that message. You also get an email with the message transcribed. Now, I'm an iPhone user. Thing is, Spinvox breaks visual voicemail. But I use it anyway. It's too much of a plus to be able to see the message I was just left instantaneously.
Not to mention, Spinvox just teamed up with Ping.FM to provide a voice transcription pinging service. Sign up for Ping.FM, and setup your Spinvox within the settings, and you recieve a number for you to call. You can call that number, and it will transcribe your voice to text and update your Twitter, Facebook, Identi.ca, Pownce, etc... with the text, and a link to the audio byte. I'm thoroughly impressed with Spinvox. Sign up for a trial over at Spinvox.com.
4 cynical chuckles out of 5!!! WOO!
